Nightmare in the Deep: Employee Savaged by Shark While Snorkeling Near Naval Base

A horrifying situation developed for an employee at a Florida A naval base was the scene on Monday when a shark disrupted his snorkeling session, causing alarming cries that were recorded on camera.

A civilian worker stationed at the Naval Warfare Center in Panama City was swimming near the coast at 11:45 am on Monday when he encountered a shark, as reported by Naval Support Activity.

A bystander recorded the incident, showing the victim yelling "help" as he struggled in the water. As he tried to flee from the sea creature, a fin surfaced from beneath the waves.

Commander Tristan Oliveria told NBC News that the worker was scuba diving during his midday pause when the incident occurred.

The deceased remains unidentified. The Navy base stated that the worker suffered significant arm injuries, yet he was ultimately helped by bystanders.

No additional injuries were mentioned. The worker was taken to a nearby hospital with severe health issues.

A 911 call made during the event showed an anxious bystander informing the dispatcher that the victim's arm "was there, but it isn't," in response to whether body parts had been cut off.

A video depicting the terrifying assault spread rapidly across social media, prompting one individual to write, "My deepest fear has become reality. It’s exactly like the opening scene from Jaws. This is truly horrifying. His life was completely altered in an instant. I'm sending my thoughts and prayers to this young man."

Requests for a complete healing," one person added. "A frightening way to spend midday.

"That was an intense midday break. Just one swim. Just one bite. Everything changed from that moment," said another person.

The horrifying assault marks the second one in the Florida Panhandle over the past week. The event took place only a few days after a bull shark attacked a fisherman, the Pensacola News Journal reported.

Rescue personnel and first aid workers reached the location where a bull shark attack occurred, and the angler was transported by air to a nearby medical facility with injuries that were not immediately dangerous.

"He caught a bull shark, then made his way to the shore and attempted to remove the hook, only to be bitten on the thigh," said Dave Greenwood, chief of water safety for Escambia County, to the source.

Although there were consecutive assaults, specialists have warned that encounters with sharks are rare.

Dr. John Carlson, a research biologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, shared information with a local CBS station, WJHG which means sharks travel to coastal regions such as the Florida Panhandle to have their young around this time of year.

"The truth is, the chances are extremely small; you're more probable to get hurt using your lawn mower, you're more likely to be bitten by a dog, there's a higher chance of you being struck by a TV than experiencing a shark attack," he said when questioned about the incidents.

Carlson advised swimmers to stay away from murky water and to refrain from entering the ocean during early morning or late evening hours, as this increases the likelihood of sharks confusing people with their usual food sources.

It happened following an intruder who entered the property during the day and was finally halted by a heating technician when he had gone deep within the House of Lords.

The officials have also faced embarrassment due to a £10 million entrance gate that failed to function properly and a "unattractive" barrier, with Members of Parliament and peers taken aback when Director of Parliamentary Security Alison Giles suddenly resigned early this year.

During the most recent incident, a woman participated in an authorized tour of Parliament on Saturday afternoon before reportedly locking herself inside a restroom stall in Westminster Hall well beyond the time visitors were allowed to stay.

It is said she did not come out of her hiding spot until approximately 2 am on Sunday, after which she started walking around Parliament.

Nevertheless, officials refuted claims that she reached the Prime Minister's office located in the corridor behind the Speaker's Chair.

The female individual was discovered again within Westminster Hall, the earliest remaining section of the palace, with security personnel contacting law enforcement to effect her arrest.

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police stated: "On the early morning of Sunday, June 7, a woman in her 50s was taken into custody on charges of unauthorized entry—violating part of the Serious Organized Crime and Police Act 2005—after she stayed within the Palace of Westminster for multiple hours following the end of a scheduled tour."

She was granted bail while additional investigations continue.

A representative from Parliament stated, "An individual was taken into custody for entering the parliamentary grounds without permission on Sunday, June 7th. This matter is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police."

Dennis Takes Helm as NSCDC Commandant in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT – Commandant Reuben Dennis has formally assumed command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Rivers State Command, following Joachin Okafor.

The transition of leadership was officially confirmed during a short handover event conducted at the Command’s office located on Olu Obasanjo Road in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, signifying the conclusion of Okafor’s time as Commander of the Rivers State Command.

On Wednesday, a press release from the Rivers NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Ihemnacho Umeado, revealed that the previous Commandant ceremonially passed the emblem of power to Dennis, who had previously held the position of Deputy Commander (2i/c) for the Rivers State Command and more recently acted as Chief of Operations for Zone 9 in Port Harcourt.

During the event, Okafor thanked the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for granting him the chance to be part of the Corps and play a role in enhancing national security throughout his time with the organization.

The previous State Commandant also thanked the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for his assistance to the Command, notably the gift of 10 Hilux police cars, which he stated greatly improved its ability to carry out operations.

He mentioned that the state government has recently found out that some young people in the state are now helping herders kidnap locals from the area.

He stated, 'The government has also clearly indicated that they are targeting those involved, and anyone caught will face persecution.'

He also mentioned that the state government has employed 300 members of the Edo State Security Network in every one of the 18 local governments, resulting in an overall count of 5,400 personnel across the state.

The official stated that certain murders occurring in the state are driven by drug-related activities. He mentioned that authorities are pursuing those responsible and that anyone apprehended will face legal consequences.
